COUNSELING FOR ANGER MANAGEMENT

Anger is an emotion we all have, and sometimes it’s justified and necessary. But sometimes anger can become unmanageable, rearing its head at the smallest provocation or misunderstanding. When you think of someone who struggles with anger, you might imagine someone who shouts or storms off during conflict. But anger can take on many forms. Sometimes anger can be passive, as someone isolates themselves from people they love. Often it’s directed towards oneself when a person is overwhelmed with guilt or shame. Other people struggle with being extremely judgmental, seeing everything through a critical lens and always assuming the worst.

 

HOW DO I KNOW IF I STRUGGLING WITH ANGER?

Signs can include: 

constant irritability or rage

strong reactions to small problems

thinking about hurting yourself or someone else

punching objects or throwing them

trouble concentrating

struggling to calm down

accusing others of misdeeds without evidence

increased heart rate or blood pressure

HOW CAN COUNSELING HELP WITH MY ANGER?

The counseling room is a calm space that can help you feel supported and do good thinking about managing your anger. Often anger accompanies symptoms of depression or anxiety, so treating these conditions in counseling also can decrease overall anger. Our counselors can help you identify what negative thought patterns generate and sustain anger. We can also help you strategize how to slow down and interrupt hostile or isolating reactions you might have to stress in your life.
